Bengaluru: Activists demand BBMP to implement HC order, taken to police station for removing illegal flexes

Police take activists to police station for removing illegal flexes.

The Karnataka High Court had ordered the BBMP and the state govt to remove illegal banners across the city.

Bengaluru: Despite the Karnataka High Court to remove illegal flexes in the city, Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) and the state government are yet to act on it. As a mark of protest, a group of people visited several areas and removed the illegal flexes. While they were removing banners in Mekhri Circle, police forcefully took them to High Grounds Police Station.

The High Court on August 2 ordered the BBMP and the state government to remove illegal flexes in the city and submit a report within three weeks of the order. The HC also warned of hefty fines to the tune of Rs 50,000 per banner if illegal flexes are found.

Despite the order, several banners, and cut-outs are still visible across the city.

As a mark of protest, a group of activists visited various areas and removed illegal banners.

While they were removing flexes in Mekhri Circle, the police questioned them and asked them to come along with them to the police station.

When the activists told them that they would come on their two-wheelers, the police forcefully took them to the police station in their vehicle.

The activists have sought time from the BBMP Commissioner Tushar Giri Nath requesting him to implement the HC order.

The HC in 2018 banned illegal banners and flexes in the city.

Meanwhile, Deputy CM DK Shivakumar said that all kinds of banners will be banned in the city in the next 2-3 days.
