Kottayam: Man dies after moving car catches fire

The incident happened near Sabu’s house at 10 AM on Tuesday. His car exploded a few metres away from his house at Vakathanam.

Two days after a man was charred to death inside a car, a 57-year-old man who suffered severe burn injuries after his moving car caught fire in Kottayam district succumbed on Wednesday.

The victim identified as OG Sabu was admitted at Medical College hospital with 80 percent burn injuries. He died on Wednesday morning.

The incident took place near Sabu’s residence around 10 AM on Tuesday. His car exploded after he travelled for just a few metres after leaving his home at Vakathanam.

Officials of the Motor Vehicle Department suspect a short circuit to be the reason for the fire. A detailed inquiry has been launched to ascertain the reason for the deadly car blaze.

Sabu is survived by his wife and two children. His wife who also suffered burn injuries while attempting to rescue him from the burning car is being treated at a hospital.

On Monday, a 35-year-old man identified as Siva Prakash had died when his car exploded in similar manner.
