IPS Renuka Sukumar appointed Hubballi-Dharwad Police Commissioner, first woman to hold post

Renuka Sukumar had earlier served as the DCP of Law and Order in the twin cities of Hubballi-Dharwad.

The Karnataka government on Wednesday named IPS officer Renuka K Sukumar as the first woman police Commissioner of the twin cities Hubballi-Dharwad. Renuka had earlier served as the Deputy Commissioner of Police (Law and Order) in the Commissionerate.

In the transfer order issued on August 9, the government appointed Renuka as the Police Commissioner of Hubballi-Dharwad replacing IPS officer Santhosh Babu. The order also stated that the Hubballi-Dharwad Commissioner post has been downgraded to the rank of Superintendent of Police of Mandya.

Renuka, a 2011 batch IPS officer was currently serving as Deputy Commandant General, Home Guards & Ex-officio Deputy Director of Civil Defence.

She had earlier served as the first woman officer to serve as the Deputy Commissioner of Police in the Hubballi-Dharwad Police Commissionerate in March 2018.

Renuka is considered as the ‘tough cop’ and was praised for taking strict action against anti-social elements.
