Godrej Consumer Products Limited has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the state government of Tamil Nadu.
Godrej group to invest in a new manufacturing facility in Tamil Nadu. New facility to see women making up 50% of the workforce.
Chennai: The Godrej group’s fast moving consumer goods (FMCG) arm, Godrej Consumer Products Limited (GCPL) will be investing a sum of ₹515 crore in a new facility in the state of Tamil Nadu. This new plant will come up at Thiruporur in Chengalpet district.
A team of senior functionaries of GCPL met Tamil Nadu’s CM MK Stalin and signed the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU).
The state’s industries minister TRB Rajaa took to the social media platform X and made this announcement. The minister also dropped a big hint about the line of products set to roll out of this facility including bodycare products besides the ubiquitous GoodKnight, a leader in the household insecticide market, largely involving mosquitoes.
A model plant indeed
This new plant would be a model plant indeed as the Mumbai-based Godrej group plans to have women comprising 50% of the workforce in the plant. Additionally the plant would also employ members belonging to the LGBTQ+ community and such employees would constitute 5% of the total plant workforce.
Industrial focus
Tamil Nadu has been very aggressively wooing investors to beef up its manufacturing competencies. It has recently announced an MoU with the Taiwanese electronic manufacturing giant Foxconn group to provide employment opportunities to the young, qualified citizens of the state.
