Would you believe that a post on social media could land you in jail? A shocking incident has come to light from Bengaluru, where a couple has been arrested for growing weed (Ganja) plants in flower pots at their home. The couple, K Sagar Gurung and Urmila Kumari, native of Sikkim, lives in MSR Nagar and runs a fast food centre in the city. While the couple has been arrested, but what to led to their arrest is an interesting story.
How Were They Arrested?
Urmila Kumari, an active social media user had shared videos and photographs on her Facebook Page. The photos featured various plants which she had been growing. Along with it, flower pot with decorative plants were also kept in the balcony. Among the 17 Pots, they had grown weed in two pots. Reportedly, in her post she had even revealed that she was growing ganja. This revelation and photo didn’t go well with her social media followers who reported the police and brought the matter before them. During questioning by the police, the couple confessed to growing ganja in order to make money faster.
Police stated the couple lived on the first floor and ran fast-food joint on ground floor. They were arrested on Tuesday and police recovered weed plants weighing around 54 grams.
As per reports, when the police arrived, Urmila was alerted by her relative and by then she had plucked the plants and disposed them in the dustbin. However, police found trace of leaves and questioned the couple. Earlier, Urmila had denied of growing weed plants and posting the content, but when police checked her phone, it was confirmed that she had posted videos and photographs on October 18. Police had seized their phones to determine their involvement in further distribution.
Following the confession, couple was taken into custody and later released on station bail. Police have registered case under Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act.
