In a recent move, Delhi Traffic Police and the Public Works Department (PWD) jointly implemented key changes in a bid to ease traffic congestion along Vikas Marg. In light of the daily challenges faced by commuters between ITO and Karkari Mor, the authorities reportedly removed three of the five red lights on the stretch. As part of the plan, to further ease the traffic flow, four back-to-back U-Turns have also been strategically created.
2 Km Stretch Faces Persistent Heavy Traffic
According to DCP Rajeev Kumar Rawal for East Delhi Traffic, the 2-kilometer-long stretch near Laxmi Nagar faces persistent heavy traffic due to the presence of residential and market areas. This decision comes in response to a recent survey conducted by the Central Road Research Institute and Delhi Traffic Police.
Three Red Lights Removed Out Of Five
There were a total of five red lights on Vikas Marg (Laxmi Nagar, Vijay Chowk, Preet Vihar, Karkari Mor, Nirman Vihar). Out of these, Police removed three red lights at Vijay Chowk, Preet Vihar, and Nirman Vihar, which pass along the Metro Blue Line. The whole activity was carried out in three phases within three months. The NGO, Guru Hanuman Society of Bharat, was also a part of the project to make Delhi signal-free.
Traffic Snarls Reduced
With the creation of U-turns, the residents of Delhi-NCR can access a signal-free movement. At present, there is indeed a smooth flow of traffic, and the traffic snarls have been significantly reduced. However, the route still continues to face problem related to parking on the roadside and movement of e-rickshaws.
