ED Raids VVMC Town Planning Official, Seizes Assets Worth Rs 30 Crore In Cash And Jewellery News24 –

Mumbai: A major action by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) has come to light against Deputy Director of town planning in the Vasai-Virar Municipal Corporation (VVMC) Y.S. Reddy. During the raids at 13 locations across the country, including Reddy’s house in Hyderabad, illegal property worth Rs 30 crore has been seized, which includes cash worth Rs 8.6 crore and jewellery worth Rs 23.25 crore.

Land Scam

The action by ED was take in connection with the scam related to the construction of 41 illegal residential and commercial buildings on 30 acres of land reserved for sewage treatment center and dumping ground in Nalasopara. It is alleged that the builder and local brokers got the construction done on this land through fake approval of documents and then sold flats to a large number of people

The investigation revealed that former councillors Sitaram Gupta, Anil Gupta and their associates were behind these illegal buildings, who were assisted by Y. S. Reddy in this scam.
Well this is not the first time, that Reddy has been in controversies. Earlier, in April 2-16, he was trying to bribe a Shiv Sena councillor with 25 lakh rupees. Following this, Y. S. Reddy was suspended in May 2016 and now the investigation into this scam is progressing rapidly. The ED action has raised serious questions about the corruption spread in the municipal corporation.
