Bengaluru: A shocking incident unfolded on Monday when an elderly man and a 12-year-old boy reportedly died after being electrocuted inside a flooded basement in Bengaluru. The tragic incident emerges after heavy rains crippled the city leaving hundreds of home inundated within the last 24 hours on May 19. The event happened around 6.15 pm at Madhuvan Apartments in BTM 2nd Stage.
What Led To The Tragedy?
The incident, which occurred due to a short circuit, also claimed the life of 12-year-old Dinesh, who was standing beside the inundated basement. According to reports, the victim, identified as 63-year-old Manmohan Kamath, was electrocuted when he was using a motor to drain the rainwater from the cellar.
Bengaluru Reels Under Severe Flooding
Before this, a heavy downpour on Sunday night caused severe flooding in several parts of the city, with Horamavu being the most affected. The flooding was so severe that rescue teams had to use boats to reach residents trapped in waterlogged streets on Monday morning.
IMD Issues Yellow Alert
In a separate rain-related incident, a 35-year-old woman died after a wall collapsed. This situation points out the pathetic condition of basic civic infrastructure in the city. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a yellow alert for several cities across Karnataka, including Bengaluru. More torrential rain is expected until May 23, with the possibility of thunderstorms, as the authorities continue relief work.
