Mumbai: In a major drug bust, officers of the Air Intelligence Unit (AIU) at Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport intercepted a foreign national attempting to smuggle a significant quantity of cocaine into the country. Acting on specific intelligence inputs, the AIU officials flagged the individual for a detailed examination.
During a personal search, the team discovered four suspicious packets of white powder ingeniously concealed in an ortho waist belt and calf supporters worn by the suspect. Upon on-the-spot testing with a narcotics field testing kit, the substance tested positive for cocaine. Authorities confirmed that the total net weight of the seized drug was 5,194 grams, with an estimated illicit market value of ₹51.94 crore.
The accused has been arrested under relevant sections of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, 1985. Sources within the department stated that further investigations are underway to uncover the broader network and identify any syndicates involved in the smuggling attempt.
