Traffic headed to Delhi will be disrupted until Monday morning on Noida-Greater Noida Expressway as Noida Traffic Police has imposed restrictions near the Bird Feeding Point, adjacent to Dalit Prerna Sthal, on the roadway towards the national capital. The restrictions will be until 4am on Monday, which will start from 9pm on Friday, for repairs on an 800mm underground water pipe.
The police have suggested that commuters heading from Pari Chowk to areas such as Mayur Vihar, Akshardham, and Chilla Border along the Noida Expressway, should take instead the Dadri–Surajpur–Chhalera (DSC) Road and Botanical Garden since they will be disrupted by increased traffic congestion.
Traffic coming into Delhi will also be diverted from both directions, the DND Flyover will also be diverted into traffic travelling from Kalindi Kunj towards Chilla Border and traffic from the DND Flyover will be diverted through Noida Sector 37 and the Botanical Garden as well.
The DSC Road connects the Botanical Garden metro station, as well as Sector 18, Sector 16, and Sector 15 stations and shopping centers such as Atta Market, but has increased traffic burden placed on commuters so they will experience delays. During this time, emergency vehicles such as ambulances and fire tenders will have free passage. The traffic police have also provided a helpline number — 9971009001.
“The pipe lies nearly 10 metres from the central verge. To carry out the repair work, a section of the main carriageway — about five metres wide and 30 metres long — will be closed from Friday night until Monday morning,” said Lakhan Singh Yadav, deputy commissioner of police (traffic).
“The repair work is both important and urgent. If the pipeline is not repaired, it could even damage the expressway. Moreover, with the monsoon season approaching, digging during rains would be challenging,” said DL Verma, Senior Manager, Noida authority.
