Raj Thackeray Defends Mumbai Amid Pothole Criticism News24 –

Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) chief Raj Thackeray on Thursday met Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis over traffic issues in the economic capital.

After meeting with the chief minister, MNS chief Raj Thackeray said, “Today I met Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis on this issue…Mumbai traffic is a major problem, now that Ganesh Chaturthi is also coming up.”

Thackeray further said, “People who are coming to Mumbai from other states only see potholes in the city. But what they don’t see is that their whole state is a hole.”

On the other hand, a few political experts speculated it as a political meet, but the MNS boss denied it. Raj Thackeray posted a tweet on X, ” Today, on 21 August 2025, I and my colleagues met with the Honorable Chief Minister of the state, Mr. Devendra Fadnavis… The topic was the traffic problem that has arisen in all cities of the state, including Mumbai, and some solutions we proposed… Cities are growing, new projects are coming up, and the influx of people into cities is not stopping. On top of that, the number of vehicles is increasing, but we neither have enough roads nor parking spaces. We are stuck on issues like pigeons and elephants, but we are not paying attention to problems like parking. Traffic congestion is the most serious issue, and there is a need to look at all of this with open eyes and implement long-term solutions. What should those solutions be? Public participation is also necessary in this. But what if people themselves break traffic and parking rules? Strict action must be taken. We made some suggestions to the government regarding all this. The Chief Minister responded positively to them. Thereafter, while interacting with the media, we presented the details of the discussions in this meeting.”
