Despite a marginal drop in the Yamuna river’s water level, large parts of Delhi and the National Capital Region (NCR) remained waterlogged on Friday morning, disrupting daily life and posing continued challenges for residents.
According to the Central Water Commission (CWC), due to heavy rains in the capital, the level of Yamuna remained above the danger mark for two consecutive days. On Thursday morning, this level was 207.48 meters, which decreased to 207.4 meters by 10 pm. This measurement was recorded at the old railway bridge (iron bridge), which is considered the main point for monitoring the water level.
This decline continued on Friday morning as well and at 7 am the water level was recorded at 207.33 meters. According to a senior official of the Irrigation and Flood Control Department (I&FC), despite a slight decrease in the water level, it is still above the danger mark and this may lead to waterlogging in Delhi.
At the same time, after continuous rain, the weather appeared clear in Delhi on Friday morning. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast “generally cloudy sky with moderate rainfall” throughout the day. The minimum temperature is expected to be around 23 degrees Celsius and the maximum temperature is expected to be around 33 degrees Celsius.
