Mumbai-Ahmedabad Bullet Train project: Union Minister of Railways, Ashwini Vaishnaw on Saturday, gave a big update on the much-awaited Mumbai-Ahmedabad bullet train project. He stated that the project’s 4.8km section has achieved a major breakthrough with construction of undersea tunnel between Mumbai and Thane. Vaishnaw informed that a team from Japan had visited and reviewed the entire project on Friday, September 19.

Railways Minister shares major update

The minister added that approximately 320 kilometres of viaducts have been completed and the bridges being built over rivers are also progressing at a rapid pace. He stated that the Sabarmati terminal is almost complete. This terminal station located in the existing Sabarmati railway yard, will be fully integrated with Indian Railways, the multimodal transport hub, metro stations, and bus stops.

“The Mumbai-Ahmedabad Bullet Train will reduce the travel time from Mumbai to Ahmedabad to 2 hours and 7 minutes. There are major cities along the way, like Thane, Vapi, Surat, Baroda, and Anand; the economies of all these cities will also grow… It’s not 1+1=2, but 1+1+11. This will greatly benefit the entire region,” Vaishnaw said.

Vaishnaw further shared details on trains, stating that “during peak hours, morning and evening, trains will run every half hour.” He added that the system of pre-reserving tickets will also be eliminated, which will improve travel experience of commuters.

“Initially, trains will run every half hour during peak hours. Later, when the entire network stabilizes, service will be available every ten minutes during peak hours. This means that if you want to travel from Mumbai to Ahmedabad, the system of pre-reserving tickets will be eliminated. Simply arrive at the station, catch a train in ten minutes, and reach your destination in two hours. This will create a new approach to the entire service,” the Railways Minister stated.
