30 detained after protest over ‘I love Muhammad’ row turns violent in Ahilyanagar, CM Fadnavis reacts News24 –

Maharashtra: At least 30 people were detained after a protest over the ‘I love Muhammad’ row turned violent in Ahilyanagar around 7 AM on Monday. According to reports, someone made an objectionable Rangoli against the muslim community during Navratri celebrations. Following this, the community people reached the police station to complain.

An FIR was lodged, and the unnamed individual who had made the Rangoli was arrested. However, the angry group of protestors was not convinced. Shortly after, they took to the streets to protest in Kotla under the Tofkhana Police Station limits. They even pelted stones at the Police when asked to stop the demonstrations. In response, Ahilyanagar police resorted to a mild lathi charge to disperse the crowd. The situation is under control now.

Reacting to the incident, Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis told the media, “We will have to see if there is a conspiracy behind this. We also need to see who is trying to spoil the social environment. Is anyone trying to polarise us in the same way that was attempted during the Lok Sabha elections? Everyone has the right to practice their religion, but it is wrong to create tension among people in this way.”
