‘Mamata Banerjee is mother-like figure to me’ News24 –

The father of the Durgapur gangrape victim termed West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee as a mother-like figure to him. A couple of days earlier, he had attacked her government, stating that Bengal is under “Aurangzeb rule.”

The victim’s father also urged the chief minister to help his daughter get justice, news agency PTI reported.

While talking to media channels, he said, “Mamata Banerjee is like a mother-like figure to me. If I have said anything wrong, I ask her to forgive me. I will render countless obeisance at her feet. But I ask her to help my daughter get justice.”

After Mamata Banerjee’s remark that women “should not venture out at night,” the victim’s father had stated that he no longer feels safe in the state.

On Tuesday, the Durgapur Police apprehended the victim’s friend, marking the sixth arrest in the case.

The Asansol Durgapur Police Commissionerate stated that the victim’s friend was taken into custody for questioning, and his role in the incident is being investigated.

Earlier, Asansol-Durgapur Commissioner of Police (CP) Sunil Kumar Choudhary said that police have arrested five people in connection with the Durgapur gangrape case, whose presence has been established at the crime scene.

Choudhary also said that a round-the-clock guard has been deployed at the victim’s residence.

The second-year student of a private medical college was allegedly gang-raped on Friday night. The survivor hails from Odisha.
