IMD Issues Cyclone Alert for Coastal Districts and Southern Andhra, 8 TN Districts on High Alert – All Schools Closed! News24 –


chennai rains: A cyclone warning has been issued for Tamil Nadu’s coastal areas because of a cyclonic circulation over the South Bay of Bengal. According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), it is expected to move west-northwest and form a depression over the Bay of Bengal near the coasts of north Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, Karaikal, and South Andhra Pradesh by Wednesday afternoon.

After that, the cyclone is expected to keep moving west-northwest towards the coasts of north Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, Karaikal, and South Andhra Pradesh. It may become stronger in the next 24 hours.

Tamil Nadu, including Chennai, has faced severe flooding and waterlogging because of heavy rain over the past week.

High Tubulence in Chennai’s Marina Beach

According to ANI, Chennai’s Marina Beach is experiencing intense sea turbulence, with rough waves and strong winds battering the coast amid ongoing Northeast monsoon activity. IMD expect the rough sea conditions to persist for the next couple of days. They have also warned fishermen and coastal residents to remain vigilant and follow official safety advisories.

What the IMD says about Chennai Rains

chennai rains: The latest IMD bulletin read: “Heavy to very heavy rain is likely to occur at a few places over Chennai, Tiruvallur, Kancheepuram, Ranipet, Tiruvannamalai, Kallakurichi, Ariyalur, Perambalur, Thanjavur, Tiruvarur, Nagapattinam districts, and Karaikal area.” “Heavy rain is likely to occur at isolated places over Salem, Tiruchirappalli, Vellore, Tirupattur, Dharmapuri and Pudukkottai districts.”

Orange alert in Chennai

On Thursday heavy rain has been forecast over Vellore, Tirupattur, Tiruvannamalai, Villuppuram, Kallakurichi, Cuddalore districts and Puducherry, while Krishnagiri, Dharmapuri, Salem, Erode, Nilgiris, and Coimbatore districts are likely to get heavy rain on Friday.

The Regional Meteorological Centre (RMC) in Chennai has issued warnings for different parts of Tamil Nadu for the next four days. Seven coastal and delta districts, including Ramanathapuram, Cuddalore, Thanjavur, and Puducherry, have an ‘orange’ alert. Other areas have a ‘yellow’ alert.
