Maharashtra News Update: Traveling between Mumbai and Pune is set to get even faster and more convenient. The Central Government has sanctioned the construction of a six-lane controlled-access greenfield expressway from JNPA Port (Pagote) to Chowk, a vital juncture on the old Mumbai-Pune route. The project is part of a larger infrastructure plan that supports industrial corridors, enhances port access, and makes commuter travel between Pune, Mumbai, and Navi Mumbai easier. The project is anticipated to cost Rs 2,900 crore.

Reach Mumbai-Pune Highway in 10 Minutes

Commuters will be able to reach the Mumbai–Pune Highway in just ten minutes thanks to the expressway, which is a major improvement over the present journey time. Additionally, the 29.219-kilometer corridor will be a crucial route for the transportation of goods from JNPA (Jawaharlal Nehru Port Authority) and the future Navi Mumbai International Airport, increasing regional development and logistics efficiency.

Project Details and Cost

The project details state that the new highway will have two main tunnels (1,900 and 1,570 meters long), six major bridges (160 to 910 meters long), five minor bridges, four flyovers, and two road bridges. For the project, some 175 hectares of land will be purchased, and the construction process will take 30 months. Prime Minister Narendra Modi presided over a meeting that approved the project, which will be carried out on a Build-Operate-Transfer (BOT) basis and will cost Rs 4,500.62 crore to complete.
