New Delhi: At least eight people died and 20 were injured after a blast occurred in a Hyundai i20 car parked near Lal Qila Metro Station near Gate No. 1 (Red Fort Metro station) on Monday evening, prompting authorities to rush seven fire tenders to the spot.

According to Delhi Police Commissioner Satish Golcha, the explosion occurred around 6:45 p.m. when a slow-moving vehicle stopped at a red light. “The blast originated inside that car, damaging several nearby vehicles and injuring multiple people,” Golcha said.

List Of Victims And Injured:

Among the deceased are three occupants of the car and five bystanders, including two vendors and an auto-rickshaw driver. Authorities have identified the victims as Ramesh Kumar (34), Arif Ali (28), Renu Sharma (41), Mohd. Javed (45), Karan Singh (30), Rukhsana Begum (52), Deepak Mishra (25), and one unidentified male, police officials confirmed.

At least 20 people were critically injured. The injured were taken to Lok Nayak Jai Prakash (LNJP) Hospital and Guru Teg Bahadur (GTB) Hospital, where they are receiving treatment.

Investigation Underway

Police and bomb disposal units reached the scene within minutes. Forensic teams have collected samples from the debris, and the National Investigation Agency (NIA) has joined the probe.

“Foul play cannot be ruled out,” said Delhi Police spokesperson Sanjay Tyagi.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah have taken stock of the situation. PM Modi extended his condolences to all those who lost their lives in the incident. “Condolences to those who have lost their loved ones in the blast in Delhi earlier this evening. May the injured recover at the earliest. Those affected are being assisted by authorities. Reviewed the situation with Home Minister Amit Shah Ji and other officials,” he said.

Security has been tightened across the capital and neighboring Noida and Ghaziabad. Metro services near the Red Fort resumed after a brief suspension. As investigations continue, authorities have urged citizens to remain calm, avoid visiting the area.
