What is Operation Aaghat 3.0? Delhi Police arrest over 100 criminals; seize weapons, liquor, drugs ahead of New Year
Operation Aaghat 3.0: Delhi Police’s South-East District on Friday arrested hundreds of accused in a massive overnight crackdown under Operation Aaghat 3.0. According to reports, 285 individuals were arrested under the Excise Act, NDPS Act, and Gambling Act ahead of New Year celebrations in the national capital. Meanwhile, 504 people were apprehended under preventive measures, and 116 individuals of bad character were also nabbed.
Weapons, liquor, drugs seized ahead of New Year
As a part of the operation, the police seized 21 country-made pistols, 27 knives, 20 live cartridges, 6.01 kg ganja, 12,258 quarters of illicit liquor, and Rs 2,30,990 in a preemptive action under Operation Aaghat 3.0. Additionally, about 310 mobile phones, 231 two-wheelers, and one four-wheeler were also recovered. The South-East District Police has rounded up 1,306 persons under preventive measures.
What is Operation Aaghat 3.0?
According to DCP South East Hemant Tiwari, Operation Aaghat 3.0 is a major step in restoring law and order. Sharing the details, he said, “285 accused have been arrested under the Excise Act, NDPS Act, and Gambling Act. A total of 504 persons were apprehended under preventive action, while 116 Bad Characters were also apprehended.”
He further added that around ten property offenders and five auto-lifters were also arrested in the crackdown operation. “Recoveries include 21 CMP, 20 live cartridges, and 27 knives. A total of 12,258 quarters of illicit liquor and 6.01 kg of ganja were seized. We also recovered ₹2,30,990 from gamblers, along with 310 mobile phones. As many as 231 two-wheelers and one four-wheeler were seized or recovered,” DCP South East Hemant Tiwari added.
Two wanted men injured in police encounter
Earlier on Thursday, a brief exchange of fire took place in the Narela area in which two wanted men were injured and arrested by the Delhi Police. The accused, identified as Afzal alias Imran and Chandan alias Kaku, are involved in multiple criminal cases and are Bad Characters (BCs) of Narela police station. They fired three rounds at the police and, in retaliation, were shot at their legs, according to officials.
