A chilling murder case has sent shockwaves through Jhansi, where a man is accused of killing his live-in partner, burning her body inside a metal trunk, and discarding the remains in a river. The gruesome crime came to light not through routine policing, but because a vigilant loader vehicle driver trusted his instincts and alerted authorities.
Suspicion on the Road Uncovers a Grisly Crime
The case surfaced when a loader driver, hired to transport a locked blue metal box, noticed water leaking from it during transit. Sensing that something was seriously wrong, he contacted the police. Acting swiftly, officers reached the destination, a house belonging to the accused’s second wife—and broke open the trunk in the presence of forensic teams.
Inside, they found charred human bone fragments and coal-like material, confirming the driver’s fears. The remains were immediately sent for forensic examination.
Who Is the Accused?
Police identified the main accused as Ram Singh, a retired railway employee. Investigators revealed that Singh already has two wives and children. Despite this, he was reportedly living in a live-in relationship with a third woman, Preeti.
According to police findings, Preeti was allegedly murdered on January 8.
Timeline of the Alleged Murder
Investigators believe that after killing Preeti, the accused wrapped her body in a tarpaulin and hid it temporarily. He later purchased a metal trunk, gathered firewood, placed the body inside the box, and set it on fire. Once the body was completely burned, police suspect the ashes were dumped into a nearby river to erase evidence.
In an apparent attempt to distance himself from the crime, Singh allegedly sent the trunk to his second wife’s house with the help of his son, using a hired loader vehicle.
Financial Disputes May Have Triggered the Killing
Preliminary investigations suggest that frequent financial demands by the victim had led to ongoing tensions between the couple. Police believe these disputes escalated and ultimately resulted in the murder.
Police Statement and Ongoing Manhunt
City Superintendent of Police Preeti Singh confirmed that the police acted on a tip-off from the loader driver.
“When the box was opened in the presence of police and forensic teams, burnt bone fragments were found. Samples have been collected, and further legal action is underway. The accused will be arrested soon,” she said.
Two individuals, including the accused’s son, have been taken into custody for questioning. Ram Singh, however, remains absconding. Multiple police teams have been formed to track him down.
Loader Driver’s Role Proves Crucial
The loader driver told police he was paid Rs 400 to transport the box. Although he initially refused due to suspicion, he later agreed, but stayed alert. As his doubts deepened during the journey, he chose to inform the authorities, a decision that ultimately exposed the crime.
A case has been registered based on a complaint filed by the victim’s family. Police say the investigation is ongoing, with forensic reports expected to play a key role in strengthening the case.
