Father arrested for raping daughter after DNA test of 16 men revealed…

Mumbai: In a deeply disturbing incident that unfolded in Mumbai’s Cuffe Parade neighbourhood, a father was identified as the rapist of his 20-year-old daughter, who cannot hear or speak. According to reports, he was arrested after lab tests of DNA samples from 17 suspects, including him, confirmed his relationship with the victim’s foetus.

The shocking case began in September last year, when police arrested a second accused and detained a minor boy for raping the woman. The investigation that continued into the roles of other men in connection with the incident underscores the horrific nature of the crime.

About the case

In September, the victim reportedly complained to her grandmother about discomfort she was facing in her stomach. She used hand gestures to convey that she felt “insects crawling” inside her belly. She was then taken to Mumbai’s Cama & Albless Hospital, where doctors found that her pregnancy was in its 5th month and immediately informed the police.

According to police, there was initially a communication problem because of the woman’s disabilities. To record the statement, the cops spoke to her father, but he dismissed questions about sexual assault and also refused to file a complaint. The victim, however, agreed to file a police complaint after counselling, following which two supects were arrested.

DNA test of 17 men reveals…

The police also collected DNA and blood samples from 17 men, including the woman’s father, which revealed that the latter was a match. The rape took place last year, somewhere between March and September 21.
