Shubman Gill, a young cricketer from Punjab came into spotlight in 2018. He made his first appearance in the ICC U-19 World Cup. He scored 372 runs at an average of 124.0 and was named as the Player of the Tournament. Gill was then picked in the Indian Premier League (IPL) after which he went on to play for the Indian Team.

Shubman Gill could not have asked for a venue more iconic than the MCG for his Test debut. Against an Australian team, Gill came out looking as a picture of calmness and technical solidity.
