The newly added complexity for Team India is that they might have to play the one of the first two Tests of their five-match series against Australia without captain Rohit Sharma. This would be a serious challenge as the Border-Gavaskar Trophy is scheduled later this year in Australia, where India has dominated considerably since 2014-15, winning that last series.
According to PTI, Rohit has written to the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) saying he will miss one of the first two Tests if he has to address a “pressing personal matter”. The series gets underway with the first Test at Perth from November 22 to 26 followed by the day-night second Test, which will be played with a pink ball on December 6 to 10.
“In case, the personal issue is sorted before the start of the series, he might play all five Tests. We will get to know more in coming days,” PTI quoted a source within the BCCI as saying.
