WPL Auction: Ahead of the Women’s Premier League (WPL) 2025 auction, several teams have made some major changes to their squads. Mumbai Indians (MI) have let go of England fast bowler Issy Wong who played a pivotal role in MI winning the title with the first-ever WPL hat-trick. Wong did not get much playtime during 2024 where she played just two matches for her three wickets at an economical pace of 8.33, especially following the recruitment of Shabnim Ismail.
Gujarat Giants Release Sneh Rana, Kathryn Bryce, And Lea Tahuhu.
Gujarat Giants sent a shock to the entire cricket world as they released veteran all-rounder Sneh Rana from the books. The 30-year-old had captained the Giants in the inaugural season when regular captain Beth Mooney went out injured. However, after a series of lackluster performances in the 2024 season, the Gujarat Giants dropped her. Rana played only four games, scoring a meager 13 runs and no wickets. Gujarat Giants have also released overseas players Kathryn Bryce and Lea Tahuhu. However, in this regard, the Gujarat side will start the 2025 auction with a crushing INR 4.4 crores purse.
Delhi Capitals Also Released Poonam Yadav And Laura Harris.
Delhi Capitals have been runners-up in both seasons of WPL. They will go into the 2025 auction with the smallest purse, INR 2.5 crores. The franchise has trimmed some key arteries, especially in the form of experienced leg-spinner Poonam Yadav, who went without a game in the just-concluded season after having played three games in the inaugural season. Another batter Delhi released is Australian Laura Harris. Delhi needs to renew their squad.
