Chaos Outside Arun Jaitley Stadium As Fans Flock For Virat Kohli’s Ranji Trophy Return After 12 Years News24 –

Virat Kohli’s highly anticipated return to the Ranji Trophy sparked a frenzy of excitement among fans at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in New Delhi. As the 36-year-old star stepped onto the field for the first time in twelve years, the atmosphere felt more like an IPL match, with chants of “RCB, RCB” echoing across the ground. Kohli, who has been with Royal Challengers Bangalore since his U19 World Cup win in 2008, was greeted by a massive crowd on January 30 as Delhi faced Railways.

Fans had gathered early in the morning to catch a glimpse of their idol, and their excitement was palpable. Some could even be heard chanting for his IPL team, RCB, as they eagerly awaited his return to the domestic circuit.

Stampede Creates Chaos

However, the crowd’s enthusiasm led to chaos. In the rush to get closer to Kohli, people were pushing and shoving, resulting in a stampede. Several fans were injured in the commotion, and a police bike was even damaged. Around three people required treatment from DDCA security and police, with one needing a bandage for a leg injury.

First Ranji Game After 12 Years

This match marked Kohli’s first Ranji Trophy appearance since 2012 when he played against Uttar Pradesh in Ghaziabad. Though he had already established himself as India’s top batter by then, he didn’t make a big impact in that game. Delhi lost by six wickets, despite Kohli scoring 14 and 43 in the two innings.

Now, after a long absence, Kohli is back for this one-off game with Delhi before shifting focus to the upcoming ODI series against England. Fans are eager to see him make a mark, especially as he prepares for the much-anticipated 2025 Champion Trophy.
