Chennai Super Kings (CSK) faced a shocking six-runs defeat against Rajasthan Royals at Barsapara Cricket Stadium, Guwahati. But one of the biggest concern is MS Dhoni’s form and batting position. Despite being the backbone for CSK and a five-time IPL champion, Dhoni has left fans guessing as to why he has been coming to bat at No. 9 or 7. In match against RCB, the former CSK skipper came to bat at no. 9 and in match against RR he came in at no.7 with a batting performance that couldn’t save CSK from losing.
Will MS Dhoni Retire After IPL 2025?
Following the defeat against Rajasthan Royals and seeing MSD’s current form, the fans are now speculating that this might be the last IPL season for MS Dhoni and CSK is on the verge of a big turnaround as if Dhoni choses to retire from IPL then CSK will face a tough challenge to fill the void of their greatest player.
This could well be the last IPL season for CSK for the great MS Dhoni! #RRvsCSK

I think this is MS Dhoni’s last season, and it’s shameful that CSK batters still rely on him at this stage of his career. I feel bad for Dhoni—he’s a legend of India & IPL, but age affects reflexes and performance. It’s time for CSK’s batters to step up! #CSK #CSKvRR #RRvCSK#RR pic.twitter.com/mERXhLTOzZ

Chennai Super Kings Faces Bitter Defeat Against Rajasthan Royals
In match 11 of IPL 2025 batting first, Rajasthan posted a tough total of 183, and CSK captain Ruturaj Gaikwad batted till the end, scoring a well-built 63 off 44 balls. His resistance came to an end in the 16th over when Wanindu Hasaranga got rid of him on the fifth ball, leaving CSK reeling at 129/5. The entry of MS Dhoni charged up the crowd with Ravindra Jadeja (13*) alongside him but still they couldn’t lead CSK towards a win.
MS Dhoni’s Struggle Continue Against Sandeep Sharma
Sandeep Sharma once again proved to be dominant against MS Dhoni and dismissed him at a mere score of 16. Although it appeared to be a gamble initially, Riyan Parag was true to his instincts. He then entrusted the last over to Sandeep Sharma, a seasoned death-over specialist who had also performed under pressure earlier, most notably in IPL 2023 when he had defended three runs against Dhoni. With his skill of being able to change the pace and keep the batter guessing, Sandeep again kept his cool, delivering the victory for Rajasthan.
