IND vs ENG: India will begin the 2025-2027 World Test Championship (WTC) cycle by facing a demanding five-match Test series against England. The Rohit Sharma-captained side fell short of making history after not qualifying for their third consecutive WTC final, losing to New Zealand and Australia.
Series On The Line
This English series is a make-or-break one for not just the WTC, but also for various senior players, who will find themselves under heavy scrutiny to hold on to their Test careers. Pivotal players such as Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma, and Ravindra Jadeja will have to deliver, and a poor series will spell an end to their storied careers.
Issue Of Swinging Deliveries
Both Virat and Rohit have issues against swinging balls outside the off-stump, and the conditions in England may be a nightmare for them. Also, since English conditions do not help spinners, Jadeja will also have an arduous task ahead, with the conditions suiting fast bowlers.
India To Play With India A
Ahead of the series, India has decided not to play any warm-up matches against county sides. Otherwise, they have an intra-squad match against India A, which will be played behind closed doors at Beckenham, a ground under the management of Kent County Cricket Club. While there were speculations that the practice match would be broadcast, India chose to maintain it as a private affair to get the attention focused on their preparations. This intra-squad game will be their lone warm-up before the first Test at Headingley on June 20.
Last India Won A Test Series Against England In England
India last won a series in England in 2007. They came closest in 2021-2022, when they were 2-1 up before a loss in the last Test saw the series end as a draw.
