Lucknow Super Giants committed a whopping ₹27 crore to acquire Rishabh Pant during the IPL 2025 auction. The LSG management purchased Pant for a large sum which sparked controversy given that he had recently returned from an extended nursery of injuries. The 2025 IPL season has shown very unimpressive results from Pant’s part as an athlete. He has been dismissed for just 2 runs in clash against the Mumbai Indians that has raised many eyebrows over the left-hander’s buy this season. He became the most expensive player in IPL history after this mega auction.

Disastrous Batting Returns
- 0 (6) vs Chennai Super Kings – A painful duck after facing six balls, unable to find his rhythm.
- 15 (15) vs Gujarat Titans – A scratchy knock where he struggled to accelerate.
- 2 (5) vs Mumbai Indians – Another brief stay at the crease with no impact.
- 2 (6) vs Rajasthan Royals – Once again dismissed cheaply, failing to provide stability.
Justifying the ₹27 Crore Price Tag?
LSG made their record-breaking Pant investment expecting someone who could accomplish aggressive innings besides providing solidity to their batting lineup. The batting outputs from Rishabh Pant across four games have amounted to only 19 runs distributed across 32 balls thus failing to meet expectations. The absence of both innovative innings play and match-winning performances has provoked widespread disapproval against him.
The Pressure Mounts on LSG Management
LSG’s substantial spending demanded exceptional batting performances from Pant, but he failed to deliver. His batting failures created intense pressure on the team because management now needed to alter their team approach.
Pant has the opportunity to salvage his position but needs to bounce back from his struggles successfully at the earliest opportunity. A consistently poor batting performance from Pant will make LSG’s substantial investment into him remember as the costliest mistake in IPL history.
