In a nail biting competition, the Lucknow Super Giants defeated the Mumbai Indians by 12 runs at the Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Cricket Stadium, Lucknow. Mumbai Indians after winning the toss opted to bowl first and invited the Lucknow Super Giants to come out and bat first. The LSG openers provided a decent start and both Mitchell Marsh and Aiden Markram scored half centuries. The Orange Cap holder Nicholas Pooran failed to create an impact with the bat and was just dismissed on just 12 runs.

Hardik Pandya Shines

In the 16th IPL match of 2025, Hardik Pandya delivered an exceptional bowling performance as lead Mumbai Indians player against Lucknow Super Giants. Hardik Pandya delivered five wickets while giving 36 runs during his 4-over period thus significantly impacting the match result. He took five crucial wickets by dismissing Aiden Markram and Nicholas Pooran and Rishabh Pant and David Miller during his five-wicket achievement. Hardik’s amazing achievement secured his spot in IPL history records because of his magnificent results. Although he batted till the last over with an intent to take the win for the Indians after smashing six on the first ball of the last over, he just couldn’t make it last.

Rishabh Pant’s Struggle Continues

Lucknow Super Giants spent a staggering amount of ₹27 crore to obtain Rishabh Pant in the IPL 2025 auction. The LSG management stirred controversy after spending enormous funds to acquire Pant right after he returned from an injury recovery period. The 2025 IPL season featured weak athletic performance from Pant throughout his time in the tournament. The two runs Pant scored during his dismissal against Mumbai Indians made fans wonder about his expensive purchase in the IPL this year. Following the mega auction he achieved the status of becoming the most valuable IPL player ever.

3 Half Centuries

Both the LSG openers, Mitchell Marsh and Aiden Markram bagged half centuries each for themselves. Marsh played a quick innings of 60 runs on just 31 balls while Markram’s 53 runs helped in taking the scoreboard to a total of 203 runs. David Miller scored just 27 runs but achieved another milestone of 3000 IPL runs. The Mumbai Indians dugout also did not leave itself behind. India’s T20 captain Suryakumar Yadav played an innings of 67 runs in just 43 balls but was dismissed while trying for an irrational aerial shot and gave away his wicket.
