IPL 2025: In a significant turn of events before Chennai Super Kings’ (CSK) game against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) on April 11 at the MA Chidambaram Stadium, MS Dhoni will once again resume as captain. The great captain has assumed the leadership role from Ruturaj Gaikwad, who has been ruled out of the rest of the tournament because of an elbow injury.
Before the high-pressure match, Dhoni was spotted meeting up with former CSK teammate and all-rounder Dwayne Bravo — currently the mentor of KKR. The two had a light-hearted moment, with Dhoni playfully calling Bravo a “traitor” for joining the opposing team.
Bravo was the central member of CSK’s IPL championship victories in 2011, 2018, 2021, and 2022 and also the team’s bowling coach in 2023. He became the mentor at KKR recently after Gautam Gambhir’s departure to join the Indian national team as head coach.

The return of Dhoni at the helm comes at a critical time for CSK, who are struggling in IPL 2025. The team has lost four matches in a row and is in desperate need of a turnaround. With five IPL titles under his leadership, Dhoni’s comeback could provide the spark CSK needs.
Head coach Stephen Fleming confirmed that Dhoni had no second thoughts about stepping up in Gaikwad’s absence.
He never hesitated to step forward and assist us out of this, if we can,” Fleming added. “That was never in doubt. Regarding replacing Ruturaj, we will first look within the squad. We have players who’ve been with us for some time. But we’re also looking at how we can build the squad in the future.
As CSK fans prepare to watch Dhoni in the driver’s seat, eyes will be on whether the veteran captain can again turn it around for the team.
