Gujarat Titans administered a seven-wicket victory against Delhi Capitals in the opening IPL game at Narendra Modi Stadium, Ahmedabad which earned them first place on the points table. After Gujarat Titans decided to pursue 204 runs as their target, they began the match with a shaky start after captain Shubman Gill (7) received an early dismissal. The Gujarat Titans triumphed against Delhi Capitals after Jos Buttler (97* off 54 balls, 11 fours, 4 sixes) secured their victory with four balls and seven wickets remaining. Gujarat Titans received support from West Indian batsman Sherfane Rutherford who scored 43 runs from 34 balls by hitting four boundaries and three sixes.
During the last over, Gujarat required 10 runs to secure victory, and Rahul Tewatia hit a six followed by a four through his first pair of bat-offs, Mitchell Starc to clinch the match. Gujarat Titans managed to move past Delhi Capitals on the points table after Buttler fell short of his century by three runs.
