‘Performance Ensures Selection’, Says Coach Gautam Gambhir, Breaks Silence On Rohit-Kohli Future News24 –

Indian cricket team head coach Gautam Gambhir has spoken about the future of senior players Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli. He made it clear that their place in the team will depend on how well they play, not on their past achievements or reputation. Gambhir also said there are no plans for special goodbyes for these famous players, adding that emotional farewells don’t belong in a team that focuses on top performance.

“Till the time they are performing, they should be a part of the team. Performance ensures selection. No coach, selector, or even the BCCI can tell someone to stop playing if they’re delivering.” Gambhir said.

No sportsman plays for farewell. The biggest farewell and trophy is the love of the country. That is what truly matters,” he added dismissing notions of both the cricket greats’ retirement.

Speaking at the ABP India At 2047 Summit, the former India opener reiterated that his role is not to pick favourites but to uphold meritocracy. “It’s not the coach’s job to pick the team; that’s for the selectors. My responsibility is to prepare whoever is selected to perform for India,” he noted.

Gambhir-Kohli relationship

Gambhir, known for his aggressive style both on and off the field, made his stance clear. He said, “I want to be a winner. No one likes to lose, and I won’t change that.” As Indian cricket moves into a new chapter, Gambhir’s message is clear: performance comes first, and there’s no room for emotions or past fame if it affects results.
