Mohammed Shami was fast enough to react to the speculations making rounds about his retirement from Test cricket, especially before India’s upcoming all-important Test tour to England. Shami went on to his Instagram to reply to the rumours as he stated that such reports have ‘ruined his future’ and asked scribes to ‘say something good’ about him someday. Star Indian pacer is in a tough time and has not yet gotten the rhythm after a long holiday from the game.

He wrote: “Very well done, Maharaj apna job ke din bhi gin lo kitna adieu hai baad mein dekh le hamara aap jaise ne satyanash kar diya future ka kabhi to accha bol liya kare aaj ka sabse kharab story sorry” (Very well done, King. Look at your job, too, first, and see how many days are left before focusing on me. Guys like you have destroyed my future. At least try to speak good things, sometimes. This is today’s worst story, I am sorry.)
The right-arm pacer posted a screenshot of a media outlet claiming that after Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli, Shami is about to retire from Test cricket. Shami responded in a long sentence in Hindi, where he disclosed his disappointment and anger. Remarkably, the Indian Test Captain Rohit Sharma called a day on his Test career on the 7th of May, followed by Virat Kohli’s announcement of playing his last Test game on the 12th of May.
Even though the two veteran batters will not fly to England for the five-Test series, a couple of reports suggested that Shami may face the same fate due to his fitness troubles. Shami returned from an injury before the 2025 Champions Trophy. His approach was positive in India’s title-winning campaign but his form tapered off again in the IPL 2025 — he has amassed six wickets from nine games thus far for the Sunrisers Hyderabad, aggregating a disappointing average of 56.17.
