Setback Before Test Return
This is the latest blow to Archer, who was set to return to Test cricket. The England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) said his injury will be reviewed in the next fortnight, leaving his availability for the eagerly awaited five-match Test series against India in doubt.
Archer had been a regular member of the Rajasthan Royals (RR) team in IPL 2025, playing all 12 games before the tournament was halted. He did miss the last two fixtures of the season, though.
The precise timing of the injury has yet to be ascertained, but it’s thought that Archer injured his thumb while training. Consequently, he wasn’t able to return for RR’s finishing matches.
Doubtful For Test Series Against India
With his injury, Archer is doubtful for the upcoming 5-match Test series against visiting Indian side. With Archer’s absence, England’s pace-attack might lack the experience.
