Tottenham came out on top in the Europa League final with a 1-0 victory by scoring in the 42nd minute after a goal by Brennan Johnson. A friendly cross from Sarr led to a great goal for Spurs because Johnson cleverly flicked it just as Onana moved to save it. Although United continued to put pressure on Tottenham at the end, the team’s defence mostly held, with crucial saves by Vicario making sure Tottenham came out on top.
United’s Missed Opportunities And Defensive Gaps
Manchester United had a hard time turning their last minutes of play into goals. Moments such as Højlund’s header missing the target, Casemiro’s missed attempt and Shaw’s header getting blocked, made it obvious that cropped up in the final parts of the game. Whenever they chased Johnson, they were a step late, allowing Bentancur to play the ball for the only score. Near the end of the game, United looked disorganised and uncertain.
What United Needed To Do Differently
Man United could have taken been the title winners if they first made better decisions in front of the goal and improve their shooting. Veteran strikers were replaced in an attempt to energise the team, but Zirkzee and Garnacho couldn’t deliver the winning goal. Diallo made a lot of crosses during the game, but none of them truly affected the score. Aligning attacks and putting Mainoo in a little earlier may have turned things in their favour. Both sides needed better finishing to get past Tottenham, who played very well in defence.
