In what turned out to be a high-intensity clash at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad, Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) produced a clinical all-round performance to hand Gujarat Titans (GT) a rare home defeat in the 2025 IPL season. The victory marks LSG’s third consecutive win over GT, including both league matches this year, overturning the early dominance GT held in the head-to-head rivalry with four straight wins in previous seasons.

LSG Set the Tone Early with Top-Order Strikes
Batting first after losing the toss – continuing the trend of captains opting to chase in Ahmedabad – LSG set up the win with a superb bowling display up front. Despite being a bowler short due to Akash’s injury, LSG’s attack rose to the occasion. Akash returned later in the game with a strapped right hand and struck a crucial blow by dismissing Jos Buttler with a clever slower delivery.
However, it was the early dismissals of GT’s dangerous top three – Sai Sudharsan, Shubman Gill, and Buttler – that really swung the momentum in LSG’s favour. None of the trio could get going, falling to mistimed shots under pressure.
Rutherford and SRK Fight Back
Gujarat didn’t fold quietly. Sherfane Rutherford and Shahrukh Khan (SRK) showcased the firepower of GT’s middle order – an area often questioned this season. Rutherford played with authority, while SRK struck some audacious strokes to take the fight to LSG, briefly turning the pressure back on the visitors.
But just as GT looked to claw back into the game, Will O’Rourke stepped in with timely breakthroughs, removing both Rutherford and Rahul Tewatia, who had just started to build momentum. That double blow dented GT’s hopes of a successful chase.
Avesh and LSG Hold Their Nerve
Needing to defend in the death overs, Avesh Khan bowled a superb 19th over to all but seal the match. Rashid Khan tried to produce some late fireworks, but it wasn’t enough as LSG held on despite the absence of a full-strength bowling unit.
With this win, LSG have now defeated GT in all three of their most recent meetings, underlining their evolution into a tactically sharp side capable of outplaying even the league’s best.
Toss Trends Continue in Ahmedabad
Interestingly, the toss-winning captain chose to bowl first for the sixth time in a row at this venue, but contrary to expectations, the team defending the total has now won five out of six matches here this season — a trend that adds more weight to LSG’s strategic execution.
LSG may be out of playoff contention, but this win showed they’re still capable of making a statement. For Gujarat, this was a wake-up call – even the best can be toppled when early momentum is lost.
