Not D Gukesh, THIS Player Claims India’s No.1 Spot News24 –


The FIDE Rankings for June 2025 has brought in some notable changes in the chess landscape especially among the Indian players who have set a strong footing for themselves in the international arena. The Norway Chess 2025 recently concluded and the tournament witnessed two Indian players emerge as top in the world.

Indian Chess Players At Norway Chess 2025

World Champion Magnus Carlsen has once again shown his dominance and won the Norway Chess tournament for the seventh time, which is a record in itself with 16 points. American Grandmaster Fabiano Caruana was on second with 15.5 points. India’s D Gukesh secured the third spot with 14.5 points. Hikaru Nakamura secured the fourth position with 14 points and Arjun Erigaisi took the 5th place with 13 points.

Arjun Erigaisi Becomes India’s No.1

Even though the tournament results have been different due to points but one of the biggest changes that came to surface was when the FIDE Rankings were announced. India’s Arjun Erigaisi has overtaken D Gukesh and now holds the third position in the world with an Elo rating of 2782 while D Gukesh sits on fifth position with Elo rating of 2776. While Erigaisi’s live rating dipped marginally to 2778.6 post-tournament, it was enough to keep him ahead of Gukesh, who holds a live rating of 2776.6.

These rankings bring in significant change and a new milestone for Erigaisi showcasing his consistency and the progress at an international level.
