Aiden Markram Opens Up About T20 World Cup Loss Against India After WTC Win, Says ‘How Hopeless I Felt Sitting On…’ News24 –

Aiden Markram performed exceptionally well in the World Test Championship Final against Australia at the Lord’s and helped his team win an ICC trophy after 27 long years. Chasing 282 in the final innings, Markram hit a knock of 136 runs and also earned the Player of the Match award. He even revealed that the innings were extremely meaningful after the disappointment his team faced in the T20 World Cup final against India in 2024.

“I thought a lot about the T20 World Cup last night and how hopeless I felt sitting on the side after getting out. I was like, I don’t want to sit there again. So it gave me a bit of motivation to make sure I stay at the crease if I could,” said Markram.

“But never once thought about the achievements and what would come with it. It was always about just trying to get the job done and trying to win,” he added.

The WTC Final didn;’t begin smoothly for Markram as he was dismissed for a duck in the first innings but he made a strong comeback and delivered one of his career best performance against the mighty Aussies.

The victory brought South Africa’s Test cricket unbeaten streak to eight matches on the trot—a record for the team in WTC times. This is now higher than India and New Zealand had achieved in the first season of the tournament, when they each had seven consecutive victories. Only the 2002-03 South African side has had a longer winning sequence with nine wins in a row.
