The spiritual home of cricket in the state of Tamil Nadu, the Chepauk stadium, is under renovation. The renovation is reportedly taking place fro the T20 World Cup that will take place next year. The primary focus of renovation is reported to be for the outfield which will be the complete change of the stadium’s landscape. While the outfield is originally smooth in Chepauk, spectators have been taunting the former India captain for his lower strike rate, especially after the IPL 2025.

Dhoni’s Disappointing IPL Stint
Dhoni’s 2025 IPL campaign have been very dissapointing, especilly for the fans who wait eagerly to watch him play just once a year only in the IPL. Being appointed to lead the team mid season, Dhoni ended his 2025 IPL stint with just 196 runs in 13 innings with a strike rate of 135.17 which is a saddening rate of playing cricket for a middle order in T20s. During CSK’s last match of 2025 against the Gujarat Titans, Dhoni did not get a chance to bat.
Chepauk’s Outfield
The Chepauk Stadium (M. A. Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai) outfield is extremely smooth, quick, and well-maintained. It has excellent grass that makes the ball rush towards the boundary when a batsman plays a shot. It becomes easier to score because of this. It is also safe for the fielders to dive and slide as the surface is level and soft. The ground is well-drained, and therefore, if it rains, the ground becomes dry very fast, and play can resume quickly. The Tamil Nadu Cricket Association (TNCA) maintains the outfield well, and in recent years, it has been developed to make it even better. In general, Chepauk’s outfield is excellent for batting and fielding.
Stats At Chepauk
While the hghest score in Chepauk is 246 runs in T20s, the lowest score in Chepauk went down to as low as 100 runs. Chepauk presents a lively pitch that changes — beginning reasonably even but becoming a spinner’s challenge area by the mid or second innings. While pacers can dominate early, spinners are the most crucial, particularly once the surface wears. Toss-winning teams tend to bat first to get the maximum benefit before the pitch wears off.
