Concerns over the 2025 Asia Cup are escalating, as the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) and a few other member boards have stated their intention to boycott the upcoming Asian Cricket Council (ACC) meeting if it takes place in Dhaka. Currently, the ACC meeting is scheduled on July 24 in Bangladesh’s capital, but the tension over its location has added to the ongoing concerns about the tournament’s future.
Asian Games
When it comes to Asian cricket, we can proudly say that India has always proved its supremacy. The Indian team is characterized as having good leadership quality together with the depth of talent. This helped them won the Asia Cup championship in a commanding manner and reaffirmed a position in the world cricket. From magnificent batting performances to stern bowling assaults, India’s path through the tournament was defined by experience, solidity, and the growth of youth talent.
There was an upcoming Asian Cricket Council (ACC) meeting scheduled in Dhaka, Bangladesh, on July 24. We also came across one of the biggest statements from The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), along with other board members, that due to some political and other diplomatic concerns, The BCCI will boycott the Asia Cup if PCB Chairman doesn’t change the venue of the ACC meeting from Dhaka.
Earlier, India also performed well in staging high-profile cricket competitions. In the recent years, we can see India held high-level events, such as Indian Premier League (IPL) seasons and ICC event. The events not only highlighted world-class facilities but also India’s capacity to coordinate and handle the pressure of logistics, crowd management, and provide security on a large scale. Specifically, the IPL, remains popular on the global scene.
According to India Today reports, the BCCI has officially informed ACC and Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chairman Mohsin Naqvi that it will not participate in the meeting if it is held in Dhaka. This decision comes amid ongoing political tensions between India and Bangladesh.
Various reports states that the BCCI has clearly conveyed its stance to ACC chairman Naqvi and even personally requested a change in venue.
In fact, any decisions taken during a meeting held without the participation of major board members would be considered invalid—as per the ACC constitution. The report also suggests that Naqvi’s insistence on holding the meeting in Dhaka is being observed as an attempt to put undue pressure on India regarding matters related to the Asia Cup. There are only five days left for the meeting, and to date, there’s no official announcement from ACC about a change in venue. After keeping a keen eye on the statement, we can say that there has been no response so far.
Moreover, India’s continuous success is a reflection of its increasing stature in global cricket. With a maximum fan base and robust cricketing ecosystem, India is now destined to be at the epicenter of the sport’s future.
