Ace All-Rounder Andre Russell Retires, Leaves Void In West Indies Line-Up News24 –

West Indies star all-rounder Andre Russell announced his retirement from the international cricket landscape. He would play his final game on the 2nd T20 International at Kingston against Australia on July 22. The West Indies is hosting the Kangaroos for a two-match T20 series. The visitors won the first match by 3 wickets, in which the 37-year-old did not make an impact. He failed to give a hand with the bat after departing for just 8 runs and also failed miserably with the ball when he conceded 37 runs in his 2 overs, bowling at an economy of 18.50. He even went wicketless after such an expensive spell.

A Huge Void To Fill

The announcement of Russell’s retirement has created a major void in the lower middle order especially in the lower middle order. Once known for their power-hitting, the team from the Caribbean Island now lacks major power-hitting lower-middle-order players. The top order batters performed well with 2 centuries, Shai Hope andĀ Roston Chase. None of the players from the lower middle order contributed with the bat, and they ended with a fizzle. It would be interesting to see who the West Indies would bring in as Russell’s replacement for the national team.
