Will Yuzvendra Chahal Be On The Move Again? 3 Teams That Could Target Veteran Spinner News24 –

The all-time leading wicket-taker in the IPL, Yuzvendra Chahal could be heading into yet another chapter in his career. Despite flashes of brilliance in IPL 2025, the seasoned leg-spinner may find himself on the release list ahead of the 2026 season. According to reports, Punjab Kings (PBKS), who spent a hefty Rs 18 crore to acquire him in the previous mega auction are set to part ways with the veteran.

As PBKS looks to restructure their squad, Chahal’s availability could spark interest among several franchises in need of an experienced Indian spinner. Here are three teams that could realistically pursue him if he enters the trade market or the mini-auction:

Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH)

SRH went through IPL 2025 without a dependable Indian spin option. Zeeshan Ansari shouldered the bulk of the spin duties, while Adam Zampa’s early exit from the tournament left the team scrambling for alternatives. Although Kamindu Mendis offers versatility, SRH clearly lacked a reliable, frontline Indian spinner.

Bringing in Chahal would address that void. His experience and wicket-taking ability could be especially valuable on away pitches where conditions favor spin. For a team looking to find more balance in their bowling attack, Chahal could be the missing piece.

Rajasthan Royals (RR)

Interestingly, a reunion with Rajasthan Royals could also be on the cards. RR had invested in Sri Lanka’s top spin duo (Wanindu Hasaranga and Maheesh Theekshana) for the 2025 season, but neither lived up to expectations. Their struggles put extra pressure on the pace unit and left the Royals vulnerable in the middle overs.

Chahal, who previously played for RR from 2022 to 2024, could bring both stability and firepower back to their spin department. His proven IPL track record makes him a tempting option for a side still in search of a dependable wicket-taker in the middle overs.

Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB)

RCB, the defending champions, may also consider bringing Chahal back into the fold. He was an integral part of their setup from 2014 to 2021, during which he delivered some of his best performances. After being released before the 2022 season, Chahal moved to RR and later to PBKS in 2025.

While RCB had a successful 2025 campaign with the likes of Krunal Pandya and young Suyash Sharma stepping up, their options in the Indian spin department remain thin. A seasoned campaigner like Chahal could add depth and experience, particularly for a team aiming to defend their title.

At 34, Yuzvendra Chahal still has plenty to offer in the T20 format. If Punjab Kings do release him, he won’t be short of suitors. Whether it’s SRH searching for an Indian spin spearhead, RR looking for a revival in their spin attack, or RCB eyeing a familiar match-winner, Chahal could become one of the most sought-after names ahead of IPL 2026.
