World No. 1 Jannik Sinner began his Cincinnati Open bid in commanding style, dismantling Colombia’s Daniel Elahi Galan 6-1, 6-1 within 59 minutes. The Italian took less than an hour to burst into the next round, reaffirming his title aspirations with a masterful performance.

Back in action for the first time since his record Wimbledon win over Carlos Alcaraz, Sinner was razor-sharp on the hard courts. There was no trace of rust as he made a seamless transition from grass to hard court, producing clinical ball-striking and relentless aggression off the baseline.

The first set was where Sinner pulled out all stops to a 5-0 lead within 15 minutes, leaving Galan, ranked No. 144 in the world, with hardly any time to get settled. The 23-year-old carried his charge into the second set, breaking and finishing with three aces to complete what became the quickest ATP Tour victory of his career.

After the victory, Sinner opened up about his win and reflected that it wasn’t easy to play there but he still somehow managed.

“I didn’t know what to expect,” Sinner said post-match

“I am happy because it’s not easy to play here. The ball is flying, and you have to serve very precisely if you want to go far in the tournament.”

This win also represented Sinner’s 22nd consecutive hard-court victory, dating back to last September’s defeat at the hands of Alcaraz in the Beijing final. Since taking the crown in Cincinnati in 2024, Sinner had earned an impressive 48-2 record in big events, making him even more the player to beat.

With his eyes already focused on holding onto his title, Sinner now progresses to the round of 32, where he’ll encounter Canada’s Gabriel Diallo.
