Mohammed Shami’s Test Future In Doubt? Here’s Why He Missed The England Series News24 –

There was a speculation earlier over Mohammed Shami’s possible comeback in the Test squad of India ahead of the England series after he was spotted in Sunrisers Hyderabad nets working with a unique ball training. The excitement didn’t last for long as his name was not announced in India’s squad for England tour.

Shami has represented India in Tests during the 2023 World Test Championship Final against Australia. He has been taking part in the domestic cricket as well but he could not convince the selectors about his fitness which led to his exclusion from Australia Tour.

Now according to The Telegraph, a BCCI official has revealed that Ajit Agarkar-led panel valued Shami’s vast experience for England series and especially with Jasprit Bumrah only playing three Tests. But the 35-year old expressed uncertainty over his readiness and this prompted the selectors to be cautious.

“First of all, he wasn’t dropped because of form. Fitness issues are the only reason why he couldn’t travel to England,” the BCCI official said. “After missing the last tour of Australia, his presence was much needed for the England series. The selectors had also spoken to him before finalising the squad, but he didn’t sound too confident. That much-needed assurance from him was missing.”

The report further stated that Mohammed Shami is expected to feature in the Duleep Trophy 2025 which will start from August 28 where East Zone will face North Zone in the quarter-finals at BCCI Centre of Excellence in Bengaluru.
