Ravichandran Ashwin To Leave CSK? Franchise Holds Important Meeting With MS Dhoni & Ruturaj Gaikwad News24 –
Former Indian cricketer Ravichandran Ashwin is likely to part ways with Chennai Super Kings. Even though there is no official confirmation but Cricbuzz has reported that India’s greatest match-winner is likely to leave the franchise soon.
The specific reason for the possible departure is not known, but it has been learned that the experienced off-spinner has already decided and made the CSK management aware of his plans.
Serious Discussions Take Place In Chennai
Whether Ashwin’s move is a result of CSK’s future plans remains to be seen. Even so, according to Cricbuzz, senior CSK administration and prominent players among them present skipper Ruturaj Gaikwad and past captain MS Dhoni have been having meetings in Chennai for the last few days. These meetings are said to be about organizing for the coming IPL season.
Stepping Away From CSK Academy Role
If this happens, Ashwin will also resign as the Director of Operations of the CSK Academy, where he has been working for the past year. He wants to steer clear of any potential conflict of interest, particularly if he decides to become part of another IPL team.
Ravichandran Ashwin: A Proven Performer In The IPL
In 221 IPL matches, Ashwin has picked up 187 wickets with 7.29 economy and scored 833 runs at a strike rate of 118. Though he played just nine games in the last season, the 37-year-old is still a very valuable player in the league.
The only question now is whether he will be transferred to another team or go into the auction pool.
Return To CSK After Nine Years
CSK bought Ashwin for INR 9.75 crore ahead of his homecoming season in 2024, marking his return after a nine-year gap. Between 2016 and 2024, he has played for three franchises – Delhi Capitals, Punjab Kings, and Rajasthan Royals. His IPL journey began in yellow, where he spent his first eight seasons (2008–2015) under MS Dhoni’s captaincy.
Another Big Name Seeking An Exit
In an interesting twist of events, this follows hot on the heels of news that Sanju Samson has requested the Rajasthan Royals management to release him before next season’s IPL.
Cricbuzz tried contacting CSK officials for comment, but so far, they remain silent. Ashwin himself could not be reached for an immediate comment either.
