“That’s How Sport Is” — Washington Sundar Reacts To Handshake Heat News24 –

The fourth Test match between India and England at Old Trafford had fans buzzing, not just for the cricket but for a tense moment on the final day. A handshake controversy erupted when England’s Ben Stokes offered a draw, only for India’s Ravindra Jadeja and Washington Sundar to turn it down.

Both players were chasing personal milestones—Jadeja on 89, Sundar on 81—and their refusal sparked a fiery exchange that lit up social media.

Test Cricket Mindset

Speaking to Wisden, Sundar brushed off the drama with a cool-headed take. “I mean, it just happens in any sport, doesn’t it? We’ve seen a lot of such things happen, not just in cricket, but in any sport. I mean, that’s how sport is. It brings out a lot. I think it was just an experience for all of us, honestly.”

Adding to the statement, Sundar also stated that “One hundred per cent. You ask this to any player – that’s exactly what you would hear. Especially in Test cricket, you want to be challenged because that’s exactly what you expect every single day. And when the situation gets tough, the only thing that will help you get over it and come out successful is being really tough in your head.”

India Levelled Series 2-2

That grit paid off as with Shubman Gill’s century leading the charge, Jadeja and Sundar’s centuries turned a 311-run deficit into a draw, keeping the series tied at 2-2.
