‘Mahi Bhai Was Fuming Even After…’ Mohit Sharma Recalls Rare MS Dhoni Outburst In CLT20 2014 News24 –
MS Dhoni is famously known across the cricketing world as ‘Captain Cool’ – a nickname he earned through years of calm decision-making and steely composure under pressure. But even the calmest can lose their cool, and former Chennai Super Kings pacer Mohit Sharma has shared a surprising throwback to one such rare moment.
In a recent conversation with CricTracker, Mohit recounted an incident from the 2014 Champions League Twenty20 (CLT20) match between Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in Hyderabad. What started as a simple miscommunication quickly turned into a moment Mohit would never forget.
“Mahi Bhai Was Fuming”
“Being a young guy, you get excited when Mahi bhai loses his cool because it’s so rare,” Mohit said with a laugh. He recalled that during the match, Dhoni had called Ishwar Pandey to bowl the next over, but Mohit mistakenly thought the call was for him.
“I started my run-up thinking I was the one called, but Mahi bhai shouted that he had actually asked Ishwar to bowl. By that time, the umpire told me I had to complete the delivery since I had already started the run-up,” Mohit explained.
What happened next was completely unexpected – MS Dhoni, the ice-cold tactician, lost his temper.
“He gave me a few choice words – really let me have it,” Mohit said, still amused by the memory. “But then I took Yusuf Pathan’s wicket on the very first ball. Even during the celebration, Mahi bhai was still hurling abuses!” he added, laughing.
Learning Under Dhoni’s Shadow
Despite the rare flash of temper, Mohit Sharma looks back fondly at his time under Dhoni’s leadership. He credits the former India captain for helping shape his understanding of the game.
“There’s a lot you learn just by being around him. Mahi bhai doesn’t speak much, but his presence itself teaches you how to handle pressure, how to read the game, and how to stay grounded,” Mohit said.
The Veteran’s Mindset: One Match at a Time
Now 36, Mohit Sharma has seen plenty of ups and downs in his career. Having represented India in 26 ODIs and 8 T20Is, and taken 134 wickets in 120 IPL matches, Mohit knows better than to plan too far ahead.
“I don’t think about the next year or two. I’ve learned that long-term plans don’t always work out as you expect. I just focus on the next two days, four days, or the next match,” Mohit had said earlier in an interview with ESPNCricinfo.
He believes overthinking can complicate things. “In professional life, it’s best to keep it simple. Just stay in the moment and prepare for what’s directly ahead.”
