Pakistan’s buildup for the Asia Cup 2025 was given a minor setback when captain Salman Agha took most of Wednesday’s training at the ICC Academy in Dubai off. The all-rounder, who will be leading the team against Oman on September 12 in Abu Dhabi in their first match, was spotted with a neck bandage after allegedly complaining of a mild spasm.
Geo News stated that Salman accompanied the team but avoided taking part in the warm-up sessions and light football practice of the team. The rest of the team followed their entire fitness program. His limited activity sparked some curiosity, particularly with the much-awaited India vs Pakistan match to be played on Sunday.
But the PCB belittled the concerns, referring to the problem as minor and precautionary. The board reassured supporters that the injury is not serious and Salman is to start full training soon. The team management is still hopeful that their captain will be match-fit for the big games in store.
With new head coach Mike Hesson’s guidance, Pakistan is in transition mode, having parted ways with the Babar Azam-Mohammad Rizwan period following a disappointing South Africa tour in 2024. Salman Agha captains an rejuvenated team into their first big stage without the two former seniors.
Pakistan enter the Asia Cup with some momentum, having won a tri-series title in the UAE within the last week, beating Afghanistan by 75 runs in the final at Sharjah.
