India’s vice-captain Shubman Gill shared a heartfelt moment during India vs UAE match of Asia Cup 2025 as he reunited with his old friend and UAE spinner Simarjeet Singh. The two crossed paths on Wednesday after India registered a 9-wicket win against UAE.
UAE was bowled out at a mere score of 57 runs as Indian bowlers wrecked havoc on field. Kuldeep Yadav took 4 wickets and Shivam Dube took 3 wickets. On the batting front, Abhishek Sharma and Shubman Gill helped chase down the target in just 4.3 overs. Interestingly, it was Simarjeet who bowled the delivery that Gill hit as a winning boundary.

Prior to the match, Simarjeet Singh spoke to PTI and revealed that he used to bowl to Gill during their childhood at the Punjab Cricket Association (PCA) nets in Mohali. But he wasn’t sure whether Gill remembered those encounters or not.
“I have known Shubman since he was a kid, but I don’t know if he remembers me. It was around 2011-12 and Shubman must have been 11 or 12 at the max. We used to train at the PCA Academy in Mohali from 6am to 11am. Shubman would come accompanied by his father at around 11 am,” Simranjeet Singh said
India will now be playing against Pakistan on Sunday, September 14 at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium.
