Prithvi Shaw has smashed a dashing double century in just the second match for his new team. In match against Chandigarh in the second round of Ranji Trophy, Shaw’s century was the second-fastest double hundred ever recorded in the tournament’s Elite Group history.
The 25-year old batter smashed a double hundred in just 141 balls going past Rahul Singh’s record which was set during the 2023-24 season. Now Shaw only remains behind Ravi Shastri who scored a double ton in just 123 balls.
Recently, Shaw moved from Mumbai Cricket Association after a turbulent season of controversy and questions surrounding his behaviour. A fresh start with Maharashtra has brought a positive change and even though he was dismissed for a duck in the opening match against Kerala. Shaw bounced back in dominant way and scored the sixth fastest double hundred in Ranji Trophy history. This explosive innings is expected to restore Shaw’s confidence and potentially revive his ambitions for an India comeback, after spending a long time on the sidelines since his 2018 breakthrough.
Shaw’s career has weathered a lot of storms as he was first involved in many controversies, then he was not picked for IPL 2025 with many questioning his comeback which looked next to impossible. But now Shaw’s double ton will provide him some relief and if he continues delivering such incredible performances then he can increase his chances of comeback in the national team.
